Uccello Perspective Chalice 1430 1440 2
Return

The silent rhetoric, or rhetoric tacens of art, includes linear perspective. However, Ptolemy used perspective in his third method of cartography. This third method of cartography was actually chorography. Chorography is typically used for rhetoric, showing class strata. However, Ptolemy used this third method showing perspective in a non-Cartesian coordinate system (the Cartesian coordinate system has not yet been "invented").

Here we find Uccello using a non-Cartesian coordinate system to picture a Chalice in perspective!
